The Newslington Ecosystem™
Journalism Chamber of Commerce and Industry™
Journalism, treated as an industry.
The Journalism Chamber of Commerce and Industry™ exists because journalism has always been treated as a profession and rarely as an industry. Chambers of commerce organize trade, protect members, set standards, open markets and give an industry a collective voice. Journalism, despite shaping every other industry, has never had one at global scale.
The Chamber is designed to sit between journalists, journalism companies, institutions, advertisers, technology providers and governments. It is intended to represent the commercial interests of the profession: membership and accreditation, business standards, partnerships, delegations, commercial disputes, market access and the economic dignity of working journalists.
For an individual journalist, the Chamber is a route from reporting into enterprise – a bureau, an agency, a network, a publication, a production house. For an organization, it is a single institutional point of contact with a worldwide body of journalists rather than a scattered market of individuals.
This is one of the foundations of the Newslington Journalism Economy™: the belief that a journalist should be able to build a business, not only a byline, and that journalism deserves the same commercial infrastructure any other global industry takes for granted.
